Dramatic, Sevilla Get the UEFA Cup Champion Title

Dramatic, Sevilla Get the 2007 UEFA Cup Champion Title

This is the proof of the great of Andalucia team (one of axis of football strength in Spain) at European Championship. Sevilla, as the representation of Andalucia, finally succeed to make a new history at inter club competition in that Blue Continent.

That is in arrow with the success of Frederick Kanoute and friends to defend UEFA Cup trophy yesterday. Sevilla win in penalty compete drama (3-1) from Espanyol (representation of Catalan) at the All Spanish Final Clash in Hampden Park, Glasgow. This Penalty Compete Drama must be through after two teams play draw 2-2 and finishing 2 x 15 minutes extra stage.

That success directly place Sevilla in row with Real Madrid. In 49 years history of UEFA Cup (previously Inter-Cities Fairs Cup or Fairs Cup), only those two club from Spain that are can achieve the title as a champion for two period in a series. Real Madrid becomes a champion in1984-1985 and 1985-1986.

"We feel very amazing after becoming the Champion. We are realize how difficult the struggle that must be passed to get it," said Juande Ramos at press conference after the medal ceremony.

Sevilla lead at the first time by the goal offered by Claro Adriano Correia at the 18th minutes. But, Espanyol get the goal by Albert Reira only 10 minutes after that. Espanyol still giving sharp opponent although start from the 68th minutes they must play with 10 people after the back keeper Moises Hurtado has received red card because of his hard violation. This draw scores 1-1 hold out until the end of normal time 2 x 45 minutes.

Team Captain and pledge goal machine of Sevilla, Frederic Kanoute, bring again the win for Los Rojiblancos (nick name of Sevilla) through the goal that make by him at the 105th minutes. But unfortunately, Espanyol succeed to balancing the scores by Domingos Jonatas at the 115th minutes.

Champion mentality of Sevilla is an important capital when the win must be decide by penalty compete, 16 from 18 player who are in the last season succeed bringing the champion trophy, is still recorded as squad member of Sevilla in this season. With the experienced squad enjoying the final atmosphere, it is normal if Sevilla get a better lucky.

At the Penalty Compete Drama, three from four Sevilla’s executioners succeed doing their job with good result. They are Frederic Kanoute, Ivica Draqutinovic, and Antonio Puerta. The only one Sevilla’s executioner who is fails to do his job is Alves Daniel. In the contrary, from four of Espanyol’s executioners, only Walter Pandiani who is succeed to nest the ball perfectly.

The failure that faced by Espanyol yesterday remembered us to the same tragedy that they found when appear at final party edition in the past 1987-1988. The rival club that is one city with Barcelona swallowed the bitter failure pill after lose at penalty compete 1-3 from Bayer Leverkusen.

"We feel so sad on this failure. Whereas, we are already show the amazing game from the first round until the final party," said goal keeper from Espanyol Gorka Iraizoz like stated at the official website of UEFA.

The failure of Espanyol is really an irony. How not? Along it journey in this season, the Catalan public proud never lose even for one time. They are also collecting the best goal productivity (34 gol).

"No one can defeat us in this competition including Sevilla at the peak party. Even, we are play with 10 of our people. We are only not lucky. I think our fans will still proud with what we are offered" said entrenador Espanyol Ernesto Valverde. (roq)
